Going Back in Time |
Grace
Apostolic was born in the heart of Carlton Rigg, he felt the urge to ask the
late Pastor Stevens to start outreach in the Scarborough area, with the support
of Bro. Hugh Peart and family prayer meetings began in the basement of the then
home of the Peart’s 23 Romuslus Dr in 1985. Several families joined the
outreach totaling 20 persons some consistent other spontaneous.. The presence
of the Lord was rich and being assured they were in the right direction and
outgrowing the basement the move was made in 1986
1986:
Services were held at George B. Little School in the Horton Pk./Progress area
of Scarborough the presence of the Lord was overwhelming, the spirit of God
moved in a rich and mighty way. It was during this period that Scarborough experienced
the first Good Friday Service.
The response to this service was tremendous, the service was packed beyond capacity,
the Lord moved in a mighty way.
The school however had disadvantages, it was expensive and time constraint restricted
the move of God. In October of 1986 the church moved to 3739 Lawrence Ave. E
a bridge club which became known to members as the Upper Room.
At the bridge club the facility was shared which was a great disadvantage, however
after 6 monts of sharing,
Grace became sole tenant of 3739 Lawrence Ave. E.
1987-1994. During those six years the church experienced
the move of God in a mighty way. Pastor Rigg had an impression from the Lord
, a principalic power needed to be broken in Scarborough for a break through.
Bro Couglan an evangelist from New Brunswick helped in evangelism, it was at
this point the Bro. Castro now Pastor Castro joined and introduced the principles
of fasting, along with his wife fasted for 14 days.
With the fasting came a great revival, the church grew, numbers multiplied.
A number of local evangelist helped keep the spiritual mememtum. It was in the
Upper Room that the Lord solidified the bases, there was a great outpouring
of the Holy Ghost, many were baptized in the name of Jesus, the church saw many
miracles, one significant miracle was the healing of Bro. Marques son from a
broken ribs..
1994-1996 Grace moved to 1220 Ellesmere Rd. between
Midland and Brimley .Of significance was a 3 months crusade with Bro Ricky Almond
as the speaker. It was at this facility that Sunday school was improved, a daycare
established , the baptismal platform built and installed by the late Bro Reid
built . Membership during this time stood at 200-210
1996-1998 Grace’s home was 1225 Kennedy Rd,
of significance is the first back to school rally initiated by Bro Eastman ,
it was at this facility that Children’s church was first established with
the first theme the Kings’ Kids. Sunday school flourished there were 2
vans for sunday school pick up. Bro Henry Hamilton pivoted the music ministry
and brought the music department to a spiritual up. During this period fund
raising played a vital role under the leadership of Bro Hugh Peart, Sis Judy
and team along with Mr C. Smith speared the purchase of 801 Progress Ave which
became permanent home in November of 1999.
1999-
present. Membership grew at this facility
to about 350. The Lord continued to move mightly and in a miraculous way, significantly
the healing of little Stefan Shakes There was a great rival in the Youth Department,
under the leadership of Bro Richard Rigg , late (Wilton) Ricky Trench and Richard
Peart .
The facilites afford the church to host conferences, of significant the Singles
Conference in April 200, ladies meetingand seminars.
At this junction we pause to remember those who no longer remain on this side,
Aunt Blanche, Marilym Sandblock who left $8000 on her will for the church, Bro
& Sis Reid, Sis West, Bro Stephen Shakes and Bro Ricky Trench.
The Lord continues to move to moves in a might way, there is much to thank him
for. We are very grateful to councillor Marilyn McKersy who was very instrumental
in getting the city to change the by-laws to allow industrial building to be
used as church..
